As you reach the apogee (the highest point) of your jump, each cell in your body is suspended in a state of weightlessness for a fraction of a second. Then as you land back on the bounce mat, each and every cell is subjected to a pressure of four times the normal gravitational force. That means you are in fact lifting and resisting four times your normal weight. Compare that to lifting weights where you generally lift only about half or two-thirds of your body weight.

Trampolining also improves bone density. That is the reason part of the rigorous training programs that astronauts undertake includes trampolining. In the null-gravity environment of space, bones become less dense and get weaker after just a week or two.
